Choosing a hotel: think about location - this can bemore important than price - for instance,you may want to be near a main railway station or be within walking distance of major attractions.
Read reviews but watchout for places that have too many reviews - check out how easy it is to give them. If a hotel has tons of reviews for a small hotel there is a very good chance the reviews will not be genuine. This is seen as good marketing by some owners.
Also do check the dates of reviews - sometime if you see, for example, complaints about noise or rudeness it may have been years ago and been addressed. Check reviews of people about your own age and give more weight to the recent ones (last 6 months)
